Week Three - Task 07. - “Between The Lines”

Postby Katherine Laurier » Sat May 18, 2024 2:22 pm

One book that you found as you were roaming the library has been a big help in your journey. However, there is one page of it that you cannot quite decipher.

It seems to have some important information that could be useful to your group, but it doesn’t say anything directly or truly explains what it is in a way that any of you in the committee could understand; it requires a bit more analysis and reading between the lines for you to figure out what it really means. The committee huddles together curiously, sitting down side by side with the open book sitting in front of you all.

Task:
Solve the following 10 trivia questions to make sense of the book. Questions are related to the theme of this activity, some of which are based on real-life facts and others are questions about astronomy in the Harry Potter universe.
1. Which planet/s in the solar system have rings?
2. What do you call a meteor that hits the ground?
3. How are most meteor showers named?
4. Approximately how many visible meteor showers occur in a year?
5. What is the incantation of the Star Shower spell?
6. What type of charm is the Star Shower spell?
7. Which African school of magic is known for students who are skilled at, besides other subjects, Astronomy?
8. In which field of astronomy did Suchrita make advancements and contributions?
9. Name one thing in the wizarding world that the phases of the Moon affect.
10. Which broomstick, produced by Universal Brooms Ltd, is known to lose height and speed as it ages?

Each correctly answered trivia question is worth 1 bean, for a total of 10 beans for this task. Send your solution in a Private Message to Katherine Laurier with the subject “Week Three - Task 07. - “Between The Lines””.

Alternatively, write at least 125 words about a specific meteor shower. Tell me about the meteor shower - its name, where it got its name, how often does it occur, and other important facts you wish to include.

This task is worth 10 beans. You can earn an additional 10 bonus beans for completing all Week Three tasks by Friday, May 31st, at 11:59 PM (HOL time).

The June Bootids is a meteor shower that occurs annually from the 26th of June to the 2nd of July. It is usually weak and the peak night is usually the 27th of June. This meteor shower was discovered unexpected on the 27th of June 1998 coming out of the constellation Bootes (hence the name Bootid). The source of the meteor shower is the comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke which orbits the sun approximately every 6.37 years. Every six years, the June Bootids can be seen very brightly when the comet comes around and it has coined the behaviour trait of being unpredictable because initially it was hard to predict when the sudden outbursts which allowed it to be bright would occur. The meteoroids from this meteor shower are considered slow moving and hit earth's atmosphere at 18km/hour.
