Then, a faint thump-Thump-THUMP under your boots.
Finn freezes. “They’re here.”
The Whispering Hares emerge one by one from their burrows. Tiny white shapes, almost invisible against the snow. Their ears are pressed to the ground, listening.
You crouch beside them, copying their pose. Beneath the frozen surface, you hear it too. A deep, slow heartbeat, the pulse of the earth itself.
The hares are listening for the world’s rhythm, waiting for the Migration’s pattern to return so they can mark the path to the Heart of Winter, but the sound is uneven.
You place the map-sphere on the snow. Its glow spreads in soft rings, syncing with the beat. Gradually, the rhythm steadies. The hares lift their heads in unison, eyes bright as moonlit pearls as their whispering begins to swell.
They begin to drum their hind legs in time, a chorus of heartbeats echoing across the valley. The sound ripples outward, calling to every Snowbeast still on the move.
Finn smiles quietly. “They’re telling the world it’s ready.”
You listen with them until the last echo fades peacefully into the night.
